North Carolina State Flag | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag
The North Carolina state flag features a vertical blue union at the hoist with a white star between the gilded letters "N" and "C," flanked by two horizontal bars of red and white. Two gold scrolls flank the star: the upper reads "May 20th, 1775" (the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, when citizens of Charlotte declared independence from Britain a year before the national Declaration) and the lower reads "April 12th, 1776" (the Halifax Resolves, when North Carolina became the first colony to formally authorize its delegates to vote for independence). It is a flag that puts North Carolina's revolutionary leadership front and center.
North Carolina's geography stretches from the wind-battered Outer Banks to the 6,000-foot peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains, and the flag needs to perform across all of it. The coast deals with hurricane-force winds, salt spray, and intense summer UV. The Piedmont sees hot, humid summers with regular thunderstorms. The mountains experience freezing rain, heavy snow, and high-altitude wind. Eder's 200-denier Endura-Nylon with SolarGuard finish handles the full spectrum: UV resistance for the Piedmont sun, quick drying for coastal storms, and cold-weather flexibility for mountain displays. Reinforced fly-end stitching and canvas heading with brass grommets ensure durability across all three regions.
About the North Carolina State Flag
North Carolina adopted its current flag in 1885, modifying an 1861 design. The two dates on the flag are a source of particular pride: the Mecklenburg Declaration of May 20, 1775 (though its authenticity is debated by some historians) and the Halifax Resolves of April 12, 1776, which made North Carolina the first colony to officially instruct its Continental Congress delegates to vote for independence from Britain. North Carolina was the twelfth state to ratify the Constitution, on November 21, 1789. The Tar Heel State's flag reflects a long tradition of leading rather than following, and it remains one of the most historically specific state flags in the nation.
