Wyoming State Flag | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag

Wyoming State Flag | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag

The Wyoming state flag features a white silhouette of an American bison on a dark blue field, bordered by a narrow white stripe and a wider red stripe. The bison carries the state seal on its body, which displays a draped female figure holding a banner reading "Equal Rights" (Wyoming was the first state to grant women the right to vote). Two pillars flanking the figure bear the words "Livestock" and "Mining," and the dates 1869 (territorial organization) and 1890 (statehood). The bison, red, white, and blue color scheme, and the Equal Rights motto make this one of the most symbolically layered state flags.

Wyoming's climate is defined by wind, altitude, and extremes. It is consistently ranked among the windiest states in the nation, with sustained winds of 20 to 40 mph common across the high plains and mountain passes. Winter temperatures in much of the state drop well below zero, and blizzards can produce whiteout conditions with hurricane-force gusts. Summer brings intense UV at elevations above 5,000 feet (most of the state) and rapid thunderstorm development. The 200-denier Endura-Nylon with SolarGuard UV finish is engineered for exactly these conditions: it stays flexible in extreme cold, resists UV degradation at altitude, and its lightweight construction allows it to fly even in moderate breezes while surviving the frequent high winds. Reinforced fly-end stitching is essential in Wyoming, and brass grommets provide reliable, corrosion-resistant attachment.

About the Wyoming State Flag

Wyoming adopted its flag in 1917, with the bison design submitted by Verna Keays, a student at the University of Wyoming. The bison represents Wyoming's wildlife heritage and the western ranching tradition. The "Equal Rights" motto on the seal references Wyoming Territory's groundbreaking 1869 law granting women the right to vote, hold office, and serve on juries, making Wyoming the first government in the modern world to do so. Wyoming became the 44th state on July 10, 1890, and the territory's refusal to rescind women's suffrage as a condition of statehood earned it the nickname "The Equality State." The flag's bold bison silhouette makes it one of the most distinctive and easily identifiable state flags in the country.
