Minnesota State Flag (New Design) | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag

Minnesota State Flag (New Design) | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag

Minnesota adopted a bold new state flag in 2024, replacing the previous seal-on-blue design with a striking modern composition. The new flag features a dark navy blue field on the left representing the state's waters and night sky, with a light blue field on the right symbolizing Minnesota's expansive skies. A white eight-pointed star, representing the North Star (l'etoile du nord), sits at the intersection. The design is clean, distinctive, and immediately recognizable, a dramatic departure that has made Minnesota's flag one of the most talked-about state redesigns in American history.

This Eder Endura-Nylon Minnesota flag is built for the extremes of the North Star State's climate. Minnesota's weather is among the most severe in the lower 48: subzero winter temperatures, blizzards, ice storms, and wind chills that can reach -60F, followed by warm, humid summers with powerful thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes. The 200-denier Endura-Nylon fabric with SolarGuard finish withstands UV exposure during long summer days while remaining flexible in extreme cold. Reinforced fly-end stitching handles the prairie winds that sweep across the state year-round. Canvas heading with brass grommets. Made in the USA by Eder Flag.

About the New Minnesota State Flag

Minnesota's new flag was adopted on May 11, 2024, replacing a design that had been in use since 1957. The redesign was driven by a state-appointed commission that received over 2,600 design submissions from Minnesota residents. The winning concept was developed by Andrew Prekker, a graphic designer and military veteran. The North Star at the center reflects the state motto, "L'Etoile du Nord" (The Star of the North), given to Minnesota by its first state governor, Henry Sibley. Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858. Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" (it actually has 11,842), Minnesota's identity is inseparable from water, reflected in the navy blue of the new flag. The eight points of the star represent the indigenous Dakota word for the state, "Mni Sota," meaning "where the waters reflect the sky."
