Utah State Flag | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag
Utah State Flag | Eder Endura-Nylon Outdoor Flag
Utah adopted a bold new state flag in 2024, replacing the traditional seal-on-blue design. The new flag features a central white five-pointed star surrounded by a red hexagonal shape (representing the Beehive State's emblem) on a deep navy blue field, with a thin gold inner border. The design is modern, distinctive, and immediately recognizable, making Utah one of the few states to have successfully redesigned its flag in the 21st century. It was chosen through a public design process and ratified by the Utah State Legislature.
Utah's climate is as dramatic as its landscape. The high desert of southern Utah delivers extreme UV at elevations above 4,000 feet, with summer temperatures exceeding 105 degrees in St. George. The Wasatch Range and northern mountains see heavy snowfall, sub-zero cold, and sustained wind. Salt Lake Valley gets temperature inversions, dry wind, and rapid weather shifts. The 200-denier Endura-Nylon with SolarGuard UV finish is built for Utah's extremes: it protects the flag's vivid colors from intense high-altitude UV, stays supple in mountain cold, and dries fast in the arid air. Reinforced fly-end stitching handles canyon winds and Wasatch gusts, and brass grommets stand up to dry heat without corroding.
About the Utah State Flag
Utah became the 45th state on January 4, 1896, after a long struggle for statehood tied to federal concerns about the territory's governance. The original seal-on-blue flag dated to 1913 and was widely considered one of the least distinctive state flags. In 2023, the legislature authorized a redesign process that drew over 7,000 public submissions. The winning design was adopted in 2024 and incorporates the beehive (Utah's enduring symbol of industry and community since the pioneer era), the star (representing Utah's place in the union), and the state's iconic color palette. The hexagonal shape references the honeycomb geometry of the beehive, connecting the modern design to Utah's territorial history and Mormon pioneer heritage.
